Trips to Nitra, Slovakia, and Moscow introduced
me to the top breeders and top kennels of the BRT. I traveled to
Nitra because it was
the host city for the 1st International show and symposium for the Black
Russian Terrier and seventeen countries were represented. In Moscow,
it was the BRT “show of shows”, Dmitrov.
After seeing these
shows, meeting the top breeders and all of the great dogs, the BRT’s
were etched into my heart. When I returned from Moscow, three additional
dogs followed
me
home
~ Don, Dinka,
and Maja (all pedigrees and
more photographs appear on the photo page). Walking through beautiful Red Square in Moscow
inspired me to name my kennel “Red
Square Black Russian Terriers”.
In February 2004, we imported "REBA"
and her brother "SMUGGLER" from
Moscow. I also brought back their sister and brother - one
went to Texas and the other to Nebraska.
My trips to Russia in
February are always most interesting. To see Red Square and St.
Basil's under a blanket of snow is a picture
one
will never forget. To ride a TROIKA, (sleigh drawn by three horses)
through the Russian country side with my Russian fur cap and
a little of the local Vodke is out of a scene from Doctor Zhivago.
To see the residences of past royal families, Churches and Historic
buildings built centuries ago in the crisp white snow is right
from the calendars of Currier and Ives.
Then to walk into the Black Russian Terrier
show of shows, EURASIA and see 150 BRT's is a feeling words
can not express. The Black Russian Terriers are at their best
- each is groomed to perfection. They lay on homemade quilts,
oriental
rugs or blankets of multi colors all
about the show ring. Some are alone, some in pairs, some with
children next to them and others getting the last minute touch
up. You stand there with camera in hand not knowing what to do
first or which BRT to photograph.
Moscow, the Russian people and the
BRT's - a triangle of pure perfection...go sometime and see for
yourself.
If I can help you with getting a BRT, bringing
one home or just answering a question please call or email.
Welcome
to the wonderful world of our " AMBASSADOR of the
World "..the BLACK RUSSIAN TERRIER.
Black Russian Terrier Accepted into AKC
Accepted into the AKC as of July 1, 2004,
the Black Russian Terrier is an outstanding breed, but the BRT
is a high maintenance dog. They are large, long coated dogs that
MUST
be groomed on a regular basis. The BRT beard can hold a quart of
water. With that said, BRT’s must be a part of your family.
They do not do well in a kennel situation and cannot tolerate heat.
BRT’s are not outside dogs. |
